The Conference is organized by the Department of Economics and Woody Plant Ecosystems (DESA) of the University of Sassari and the Institute of Biometeorology of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-IBIMET, Sassari). It is an initiative of the “Proterina-C” Project (A forecast and prevention system for climate change impacts on risk variability for wildlands and urban areas), co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Italy-France Maritime Program.
The aim of the Conference is to present advancements in forest fire research and to illustrate the contribution of researchers to scientific knowledge of wildland fire.
Sessions will cover the following topics:
EUROPEAN PROJECTS ON FOREST FIRES
This session will provide an overview of the Proterina-C Project. The most important results of the main activities will be presented. Other European projects will be presented.
MODELLING FIRE BEHAVIOUR AND RISK
This session will explore the modelling applications to assess fire behaviour and risk at local and broad scale. Contributions on post fire management and vegetation recovery will be taken into account.
CLIMATE AND FIRE
This session will be devoted to papers focusing on the relationships between climate and fire ignition, danger and behaviour. Analysis of historical and future climate effects on fire will be also considered.
FIRE RISK AT WUI
The objective of this session will be to present the advances and the main methods to assess the characteristics of WUI, to estimate the fuel types and to model the potential fire behaviour and risk at WUI level.
